About Irena Josifoska

Award-winning cellist

Irena Josifoska is a distinguished Serbian cellist, celebrated for her exceptional talent and achievements. A first prize winner of the Gabrielli Cello Competition in Berlin, she has received multiple prestigious awards, including the Prix Jean-Nicolas Firmenich at the Verbier Festival, and the Hans Gal Prize from the Villa Musica Foundation. She has also been recognized at the Grand Prix Emanuel Feuermann and the Queen Elisabeth Competition, and won the 2024 Scholarship Prize at the German Music Competition in the chamber music category.

Irena began her musical journey at the age of five in Novi Sad, later studying at renowned institutions such as the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold, Universität der Künste in Berlin, and pursuing Konzertexamen studies in Berlin. She has performed as a soloist with prominent orchestras including Deutsche Sinfonietta Berlin, Metamorphosen Berlin, and the Wurttembergische Philharmonie, and at major festivals like Verbier, Musiktage Mondsee, and Ohrid Summer Festival.

A highly sought-after chamber musician, Irena has collaborated with esteemed artists including Guy Braunstein, Daniel Stabrawa, and Albrecht Mayer, and played alongside renowned ensembles such as the Artemis Quartett. Irena has released several acclaimed CDs, including a solo album, Cogitationes, and has also recorded for Sony with the VOX Barock Ensemble.
