The Sound of Pančevo is a curatorial and publishing collection by Krokodil Studio, conceived as a long-term project that documents, shapes, and reinterprets the sound of the city through music.

The starting point of the collection is not genre, but place. Pančevo is approached not merely as a geographic location, but as an acoustic and cultural space — a city whose identity is formed through its halls, institutions, improvised scenes, individual artistic voices, and the encounters between them.

The city as an instrument

Within The Sound of Pančevo, space becomes an equal participant in the music-making process. The venues in which the albums are recorded are active elements of the sound itself. Their acoustics, history, and symbolic meaning directly influence the final musical expression.

The first releases in the collection were recorded in the Hall of the Pančevo Cultural Center, the Svetosavski Dom, and the recording room of Krokodil studio, forming a kind of sonic map of Pančevo — a map read not visually, but through listening.

Music as document and interpretation

While deeply rooted in a local context, The Sound of Pančevo is not limited by locality. On the contrary, it brings together artists whose work resonates on national and international stages. Pančevo emerges here as a meeting point for contemporary classical music, chamber practice, improvisation, and exploratory approaches to sound.

Each release functions simultaneously as an artistic statement and a sonic document of a specific time, place, and community.

The first collection

The inaugural The Sound of Pančevo collection includes the following releases:

• Olga Petrović – Scott Joplin: Slow Rag
  An intimate piano recording captured in an acoustic that emphasizes clarity of form and subtlety of expression.

• Irena Josifoska – Cogitationes
  A solo album exploring the boundaries of string sound, situated between composition, contemplation, and space.

• Đorđe Kujundžić & Olga Petrović – Ante Grgin: Sonatas
  Chamber works that connect the rich compositional legacy of Ante Grgin with a contemporary performance sensibility.

Although aesthetically diverse, these albums are united by a shared idea: sound as a carrier of spatial identity.

A long-term vision

The Sound of Pančevo is conceived as an open and evolving collection. Future releases will continue to explore the relationship between artists, spaces, and the city itself, documenting change, emerging voices, and a range of aesthetic approaches.

The aim of Krokodil Studio is not only to release albums, but to build an archive of Pančevo’s sound — an archive that is at once artistic, documentary, and deeply personal.

In this sense, The Sound of Pančevo is not merely the name of a collection, but an invitation to listen to the city more closely.
